History of Zombie Games
One of the most popular types of enemies throughout the history of video games, is zombies. They have creeped their way through many years, genres, and platforms, growing from being just a rare idea to an absolute zombie apocalypse in popular culture.
The first zombie game, developed by Quicksilva for the ZX Spectrum in 1984, was called Zombie Zombie and threw a player into a city overrun by the undead and providing him with several different kinds of weapons.
Soon after that, the general zombie / undead idea began to find its way inside other games, crawling in even into the famous Super Mario Bros 3, where it appeared in the form of Dry Bones – undead zombie-like turtles.
Soon after that, the zombies started to spread across various games, becoming generally slightly more and more often seen in the form of enemies. And if at first there was only one type of zombies, in Metal Slug 3 and Metal Slug 4 they received many different forms. They also gained an ability to zombify human characters and from there it was an easy path to explode into what happened to be an absolutely new genre in the gaming industry – zombie survival.
The most mentionable titles in the zombie game history would be Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Resident Evil, The House of the Dead, and others.
