History of BurgerTime
BurgerTime (originally known as Hamburger) is an arcade game, created in 1982. It is a maze platform-based game in which the player takes control of Chef Peter Pepper.
The object of the game is to complete a certain amount of hamburgers while avoiding enemy foods. When the main character walks over an ingredient, it falls one level. The burger is complete when all vertically aligned ingredients have been dropped onto the plate which is positioned under the maze. There are several burgers to be completed on every level. Each stage is more difficult than the other by the composition of the hamburger, the layout of the maze and the number of enemies. The Chef also has pepper shots to stun enemy foods for few seconds.
The game has received several sequels and spin-offs. An arcade spin-off Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory and an arcade sequel Super BurgerTime (in which two players could play at the same time) were not widely released. Another planned sequel, PizzaTime, wasn't released at all due to the video game market crash at the time of development of the game. In 1984 a console-only sequel, Diner, was released.
BurgerTime was ported to several consoles and home computers. It is available on PlayStation 2 as an emulation.
The game itself is a classic and loved arcade game of the 1980s. The main character of the game, Peter Pepper made an appearance in the animated feature film Wreck-It Ralph.
